Quick and Easy Recipe for DIY Homemade Laundry Detergent
Wow! Do you go through a lot of laundry detergent too? It seems like when you are caring for someone, the laundering needs are very high. As well as the cost of laundry detergent. Looking to reduce our costs meant finding quality DIY options. Quality because some DIY projects are not necessarily helpful. At first we worked with the powdered homemade laundry detergent but it required a lot of grating. When you are a caregiver you don’t have time and energy for that. We eventually landed on a DIY homemade laundry detergent that is quick and easy to make. I can literally makes 5 gallons of liquid laundry detergent in less than 5 minutes. It also costs only about $.05 a load. While it is not the best on tough stains (we just use Tide when we need it), it is great for everyday laundry. And yes, it also supposedly works on High Efficiency washers because it doesn’t have high foaming levels.
DIY Homemade Laundry Detergent Recipe
3 Tbs Borax
3 Tbs Washing Soda
3 Squirts Dawn Dishwashing Soap
HOT tap water
Tip: Initially we used milk jugs in the gallon size to make the laundry soap. What we realized is that after about 1 to 2 months the milk jugs began to crack and spill. We eventually figured out that vinegar containers (the gallon-ish) size are a much more durable plastic. Also you can use the vinegar for other DIY cleaners. When using the vinegar containers I believe they are little more than a gallon. So what I just do is using heaping Tablespoons for the ingredients above.
