It’s tornado season and it is coming on strong.  With mom’s latest hip fracture, tornado precautions have changed. We used to be able to take her downstairs as she could get in and out of the golf cart and we could drive her down to the basement door.  Not anymore.  Now we just have to hide out in the bathroom which does not feel like a safe place at all.

Earlier this week tornadoes came whipping across the region.  Our electricity suddenly went out without a second effort to restart.  I looked outside and the wind and the rain was whipping around like the inside of a dish washer.

We first found some lighting which was not as easy as thought.  The batteries were dead and the candles were few.  But we were able to make it work.  Then we headed to the bathroom and donned helmets.  Yes, if you’ve lived around here long enough, you put some helmets on because flying debris causes some bad brain injuries or death.  And then we waited.

When I thought it was over, I stepped outside to get some video of the lightning.  In the flashes of lightning, it looks like I saw a tornado tail (picture above).  Perhaps the remnants of one that had just hit 2 miles down the road, or one that was forming.  Not sure.  You decide.

But thankfully nothing hit.   It was a wild night but we were kept safe.  Thank you Lord.
